Thank you for your message

I have a computer that was built by my daughter several years ago.
It says it is a "Pentium 4 CPU, 1.60 GHz 786 MB of RAM"

It is set up as dual boot --Ubuntu 10.04 and XP Professional

Last Friday (26 Nov.) A message showed up on the screen that an upgrade
to Ubuntu was available. This occurs often.
As usual, I selected the download and entered my password
When the download completed it gave me a message that the computer
needed to restart. I okay'd that.

When it rebooted and I selected Ubuntu from the Windows/Ubuntu choice
menu the computer shut down, the screen message said it was going to
sleep and then the machine rebooted itself to the Windows/Ubuntu menu.
It continues to do this over and over, every time I try to select Ubuntu

Windows still opens up fine and the machine offers to load the original
Ubuntu (that I made when I first downloaded Ubuntu) when I put the disc
in. But if I do that I'm afraid that I'll lose my calendar and e-mail
addresses.

Any help you can give me would be most appreciated.

Rick
