Binary package hint: foomatic-db
Today I tried printing to a networked Canon ImageRunner 3570 printer
("socket" connection) using the same configuration that I always used
and instead of printing normally it produced one page with the famous
"%PDF-1.4..." garbage and lots of blank pages. I have been using the
foomatic postscript driver for some time and it has always worked, but
today, no love. Printing a "test page" produced the same result.
Changing the driver on the printer and then changing it back to the
postscript driver also failed to fix the problem. I am now using the
ljet4d driver and it seems to work OK, but the postscript driver is
supposed to work for this printer.
I don't think this bug is really a foomatic-db problem as surely the PPD
didn't change between a week ago when printing worked and now. The
problem must be somewhere else in the supply chain. But foomatic-db is
the package that generated the PPD, so in the absence of a better idea
of where the problem originates, I am citing this as the problem.
