Public bug reported:

Ubuntu kernels (at least up to Maverick) still have CONFIG_NLS_DEFAULT=cp437
set, which causes IMHO strange behaviour. I discovered this with some people
from the samba team here (https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7822) when
I tried to use "mount.cifs //path/with Umlaut in Share Name ...". mount.cifs
uses the default Kernel NLS Codepage to translate the UNC path, which fails
cause every halfway modern CIFS server expects the UNC path to be UTF-8 encoded.
This can be circumenvented in this case, by using "iocharset=utf8" explicitly.
But I still wonder what is the reason to leave this setting at CP437, and if it
wouldn't be better to change it.

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
