Thank you Daniel for the tip. I added the daily build repository and
installed. I have rebooted a couple of times but the problem remains.

Today I generated a 1000 hz sinus tone and made a testfile. It plays the
tone in the left channel for a few seconds, then the right and then
both. When testing it I found that the speakers are working properly but
when trying it in the headphones it is played normal in the left
earphone (but a bit weaker even though the slider for headphones in the
GNOME alsa mixer is at 100%)  and extremely weak, almost silent, in the
right earphone (alsa mixer is balanced between channels).
