Try adding this to xorg.conf:
Section "ServerFlags"
Options "NoPM"
EndSection
for me it helped so much as to get Xserver to work after
suspend/hibernate; after suspend (hibernate not tested) it shows a lot
of artifacts (sometimes so much of them it is actually impossible to see
anything but...).
hacking around with this and radeontool, we'll see if I can find a work-
around
