All attached PPDs are the same, the PPD which comes with Brother's
drivers. Do not use the PPD for the DCP-1000. It was only marked after
manually choosing "Brother" because it is the first in the list.

Ubuntu does not provide any driver or PPD explicitly for the Brother
HL2270DW. The PPD which is on your system comes from the Brother drivers
which you have obtained probably directly from Brother.

I do not see any problem with the PPD and the Duplex option in it. The
problem is probably a bug in Brother's driver.

Most probably your printer also works with standard printer languages
and this can be a way . Please try the different PCL and PostScript
options offered under the manufacturer "Generic". Especially try the
PCL-6/XL printer with "pxlmono", and the PCL-5e printer with hpijs and
also the PostScript printer. Which ones work and does Duplex work with
these drivers? Try also the Brother HL-1260 with the "hl1250" driver and
the Brother HL-1030 with the "hl7x0" driver.

So there is once a bug in the Brother driver. Here we cannot do
something. What we can do is adding your printer to the printer
database, so that one of the generic drivers gets assigned to the
printer if no driver from Brother is installed. For that I need to know
with which generic drivers your printer works. In addition, run the
following commands and post the output here:

sudo /usr/lib/cups/backend/dnssd
sudo /usr/lib/cups/backend/snmp
sudo /usr/lib/cups/backend/usb

For the last one the printer needs to be connected to the USB.

As your info will go into the foomatic-db package, I move this bug to
foomatic-db ...

** Changed in: cups (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided => Medium

** Package changed: cups (Ubuntu) => foomatic-db (Ubuntu)
