Same problem here. Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat (as Linux Mint 10, 64-bit), external CD-RW in USB case. From lsusb:
Bus 002 Device 012: ID 05e3:0701 Genesys Logic, Inc. USB 2.0 IDE Adapter When connected, drive spins up, but then nothing. Data disks can be mounted via 'udisks --mount /dev/sr0', but no luck with audio CDs.
