@Valthare: Good idea, thanks. I'm using Gnome, default Ubuntu
installation, but continued to use my old home folder from Jaunty when
installing Lucid. (Tried Maverick first, but it doesn't like my TV card
- /dev/dsp missing.)

With a new user account, I cannot reproduce the problem! So you are
right, it has to be something within my home dir, and I began to dig
deeper... When comparing the structures, I see many differences, of
course. Looking at the Recovery file, it's interesting that the
"RecoveryInfo" block contains a "true" while in the global config we
explicitly set it to "false". So I tried to replace only this file with
the one from the new profile -- no success. Now I moved my old profile
to a backup folder, copied it partly back to a fresh one... and while
browsing with KDiff3, the scales fell from my eyes:

In addition to Panticz' fix, I had to clear the
"/home/nina/.openoffice.org/3/user/registry/cache" folder -- now it
works for me! :-)

(I already submitted a comment to his article.)
