Public bug reported:
When installing Maverick 10.10 on Lenovo U160 with i5-470um processor
with Mobile Intel HM55 Express Chipset I must use option F6, nomodeset
to install otherwise screen is black on boot. When installed the same
thing happens. I have tried mod of GRUB with all known options,
nomodeset, xforcevesa, i915.modeset=1, i915.modeset=0. The latter
option boots into tty command line mode as does the "try Ubuntu" step of
the CD. I have tried the steps in bug 518938 as well with the same
results. I have the same results when installing 10.04. There is an
error stating the Intel graphics not recognized, no turbo support when
booting into command tty mode. "startx" fails with "Fatal Error - no
screens found".
This report sent from my Lenovo X61 tablet, not the problem laptop. I
was unable to send report from the new laptop.
