Yes, this problem occurred during/after the upgrade. I am unfamiliar with
many of the Linyx upgrade protocols.. is there a procedure available
online to perform your suggested upgrades?
Almost certainly a problem with the dpkg and doc base since the upgrade
crashes directly after " the preparing the pdkg" message .

This is certainly not a critical item but has been bothering me several
months and I want to be able to learn how to address it. It would be
easier to re-install the entire OS but that is the easy way out!
