** Description changed: - Binary package hint: gdm + When trying to boot the LiveCD, or an Ubuntu 10.10 installation upgraded + from 10.04, the computer completely freezes. I can get in by adding + nomodeset to the boot options. After installing the proprietary nVidia + driver, everything works as expected. - When trying to install Maverick on my Desktop, I ran into quite a few - issues. First off, when using the live cd and selecting "Install - Ubuntu," the installer didn't appear, only the top "panel" with the - Sound and Shutdown icons, which didn't work. I then tried to use the - other option "Try Ubuntu without installing," but that simply left me - staring at the plymouth screen. If seemed like everything loaded, just - in the background. Also, the keyboard locked up, and even the *lock keys - didn't work, unless I used "ctrl+alt+sysrq+r". + I've tested this with both 10.10, and the latest daily of 11.04. - Finally, I successfully installed it with the alternative cd, but now - I'm again stuck with a locked keyboard and a cursor, only this time it's - not during plymouth, but just after having logged in using GDM! Only the - cursor and the default wallpaper are on the screen; no icons, no panels, - no nothing. I can move the cursor so it's not a total freeze. - - I was able to use ctrl+alt+F1 to get to a TTY before logging in, and - installed all available updates. Didn't help. I also tried Gnome Safe - Mode, and Unity. Same result. Haven't tried KDM yet, will do if it - helps. + This is the same as a bug I reported earlier, bug #632231, but since + that one got off-track I've marked it as invalid, and submitted this + report with what I hope is a clearer description of the bug, and hope to + have a good cooperation and get it solved.
