Sorry for the delay, yes, it is still an issue with the final maverick.
To reproduce this, I took a second disk and created a partition starting
on sector 1 instead of 63 or 2048. I then installed to a root fs on the
first disk but told the installer to install grub on the second disk,
which predictably failed, causing the broken dialog box to appear.
