Binary package hint: plymouth
I don't have a digital camera handy or I would post photos. I'll try to
explain as best I can.
A while ago in natty, plymouth got updated. I hear it's doing something
new to create less transitions from grub. However, now at least on my
machine, it looks much worse visually.
The logo is monochrome (no nice glow around it like in 10.10). And it's
very aliased, very pixelated.
Further, if a text message is shown at the bottom of the screen, it's
almost unreadable. It appears vertically 'stripy' with some vertical
strips of the text being bright white and readable and other stripes
being darker and hard to see.
Ubuntu 10.10 worked great for me.
