I think that the problem is with your ogg file. when I run ogginfo on the file you attached, I get: WARNING: sequence number gap in stream 1. Got page 26 when expecting page 2. Indicates missing data. WARNING: discontinuity in stream (1)
and: WARNING: EOS not set on stream 2 It seems that alsaplayer can cope with that problem, but vlc can't.
