Subject: [Bug 687722] Re: Dell Studio 15 5100 wireless card won't run in N
mode

Hello

Instead of install, have you got the time to test the latest kernel, shipped
in Natty, running a live session ?

http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/

(when popup tells that you haven't got the 3D just click close and will
start on classical gnome desktop)

Thanks

Fabio

Title:

Dell Studio 15 5100 wireless card won't run in N mode

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:

  Incomplete

Bug description:

I am Newbie to Linux, but loving it as I go!! I'm running Ubuntu ver 10.10
Maverick Meerkat normal releases and I've discovered that while using
wireless, I was only running in 802.11g mode @ 54Mbps when I'm pulling in 1
Gbps on my desktop hardwired! When I hard wire my Studio 1537 Laptop I can
tell right away it's downloading much faster. The hardware info says I have

a Broadcomm card, but in fact it is a Dell 5100 wireless, Intel Part Number
512_AN Besides intermittent dropped connections, my main issue is how, if
possible, to get my card to give me N mode speeds? I should also mention,
back when I first started a year ago, ver 8.0 I think it was, since then
since an update along the road, my bluetooth no longer works either.

Despite my lack of command line experience, I'm not missing dear ol
windows

in the least, just keep it on the desktop as a backup for when I dabble in
things I don't understand with this O.S., but it's all worth it anyway, no
matter how many times I've had to do a fresh install!!! A+++ to this O.S.
and the Ubuntu Community.

wireless or send to wireless printer. Looks like a fresh install coming up

again" :)

Thank you very much for your time.
