Hello I've read all articles mentioned by Mubeen Jukaku and the articles linked in. While hplip detect the printer status it reads back information from printer using USB bi-directional feature. If you modify USB to set it to uni-directional connection the problem disappear. You can have that setting e.g. recompiling the kernel to disable bi-directional usb or if you use the printer front usb port (that is unidirectional).
I did some trials and the simple workaround suggested to Mubeen Jukaku and AlmaTlust work fine for me (Ubuntu Maverick). Connection remain bi-directional but hplip doesn't ask to the printer for diagnostic (like ink level ...) and the printer never lock. With printer installed: - Right click printer - Select Properties - Click on Change button related to URI - On right panel select USB instead of hplip Giuseppe -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/414689 Title: photosmart 7760 freezes when starting a print job on ubuntu jaunty -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
