This is what /etc/openvpn/update-resolv-conf should do. This is not done
automatically, you have to enable it in your openvpn config.
Do you have the following in your openvpn configuration:
up /etc/openvpn/update-resolv-conf
down /etc/openvpn/update-resolv-conf
?
