I confirm I have the same problem.

I think this could be a kernel bug (or something like "SCSI emulation
for USB Mass Storage devices") because neither Banshee or Exaile are
able to manage the ipod.

On a computer running Lucid everything works fine. When I connect my
ipod to another computer running Maverick the ipod seems to be empty and
Rhythmbox crashes when I simply try to see the properties.

I hope the attachments are complete and useful to solve the problem.
- the log messages appeared when I connect the ipod to Lucid;
- the log messages appeared when I connect the ipod to Maverick;
- the Rhythmbox debug messages
