Thanks for your bug report. Which connection manager are you using? if
its something other than the network-manager then open a terminal and do
the following
$ sudo apt-get install dconf-tools
then open dconf-editor from terminal, navigate from 'apps' to 'empathy'
and there untick 'use conn' option and see if that solves the problem
