I agree up to a certain point:

1) There is no obvious proof that anyone is doing anything with this, as
some of the other bugs mentioning this issue are over a year old. I
believe you, but some more active overview on what is being done would
be appreciated.

2) Although it is not necessary 'corruption', the fs was still unmounted
while busy. Whatever we call it - it's not what is supposed to happen
and I'm sure many people get scared away when that happens, especially
on a clean install.
