I am referencing this to https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/78037
I am also using an rt 8180 card. I have a similar problem with kwifimanager and knetworkmanager. And kwlan also does not work for me. For wlassistant to work it requires network-manager. wlassistant does not have a dependency on network-manager, but it I think it should. Please try the manual procedure suggessted in bug 78037 sudo ifconfig [interface] down sudo iwconfig [interface] essid [essid] key [key] sudo ifconfig [interface] up sudo dhclient3 [interface] then try knetworkmanager Also note you can use wlassistant to establish a wifi internet connection once. Then use knetworkmanager after the interface has been reset by wlassistant. ====================== Manual work arounds including manually resetting the wifi interface or using wlassistant to reset the interface.
