Dear Harold, developments of the libbam-dev package take place in Debian. I monitor Launchpad nevertheless. I can move the header files to /usr/include/bam, but then another software, Bio::Samtools, will need manual configuration as it expects the headers in /usr/include. I will ask to the SAMtools developers for their recommendation.
