ao721, reporting some success: 1. hit the hibernate button, display turns off, no data is written on disk, system hung, forced poweroff fixes the problem, on reboot networking is disabled: turns out that APIC is not working well on this machine, disabling it makes it successfully dump ram data on a swap partition provided there's enough space to do that (i have a 2GB swap partition). resuming now works with "radeon" driver, for fglrx read below. networking is disabled because there are some scripts which among other things disables networking BEFORE issuing the actual ACPI suspend, and does the opposite after a SUCCESSFUL resuming of the system kernel.
