There is no log, since the machine never boots up.

Best Regards,

Mark

Subject: [Bug 693187] Re: SPARC upgrade hardy -> Lucid leaves machine unbootable

could you please boot without quiet and show hole log where it freezes?

I see not direct hint that the initramfs should be responsible for the
freeze. Not sure if sparc is still supported by Ubuntu?

** Changed in: initramfs-tools (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Incomplete

Title:
SPARC upgrade hardy -> Lucid leaves machine unbootable

Status in “initramfs-tools” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: initramfs-tools

The upgrade (hardy LTS to Lucid LTS) proceeds with no reported errors
then, on attempting to reboot the machine, the following occurs:

Sun Blade 100 (UltraSPARC-IIe 550MHz), Keyboard present
OpenBoot 4.0, 1024 MB memory installed, etc etc

Boot device: disk File and args:
SILO Version 1.4.14
boot:
Allocated 64 Megs of memory at 0x40000000 for kernel
Uncompressing image...
Loaded kernel version 2.6.32
Loading initial ramdisk (8313051 bytes at 0x3F000000 phys, 0x40C00000 virt)...
\

The cursor rotates a few times, then the whole machine freezes. Booting
from a rescue CD (Hardy is the only one from which a SPARC can actually
boot) and hand mounting all the f8ilesystems shows nothing unusual.
Changing fstab and silo.conf entries from UUID to /dev/hdaXX doesn't
help. The problem appears to be in initramfs and, effectively, means
that it is impossible to run Lucid on a SPARC based system (since
neither the CD or netboot installers can possibly work)
