Public bug reported: I am using a new (as of December 2010) HP Pavilion dv6t laptop with Ubuntu 10.10.
In system > Preferences > Power Management I have set "On AC Power" on the following: Put computer to sleep when inactive for: Never When laptop lid is closed: Blank Screen If I close the lid only briefly, I can open the lid, type in my password, and resume use of the laptop. But if I leave the lid closed for too long (I do not know the exact length of time, but perhaps between 5 to 15 minutes) the display is gone. I am left with nothing but a black screen and nothing will bring it back. I have to turn off the laptop and then turn it back on again. I do not know if this bug is affecting the kernel or gnome-power-manager so I also filed this bug here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source /gnome-power-manager/+bug/696159 My problem seems very similar to the problem described in this bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/692164 Let me know if there is other information or anything I can do to help fix this problem as soon as possible.
