Same problem here. Seems to be triggered by firefox as the problem disappears if I am able to stop that (when the system is very little responsive because of all RAM used and using the swap heavy).
I have tried both "nv" and "nvidia" x server drivers... I did not have any problems running xorg and firefox with debian unstable on the same box before, and it has 0.7 gb of ram. -- Xorg process freezes, uses 100% of CPU.
