Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: gnome-control-center
Hello,
Serious keyboard problems with Ubuntu 10.10
I changed my keyboard, now I need to change the layout from "Italy" to
"Switzerland French".
I opened "gnome-terminal", then typed "sudo gnome-keyboard-properties", went to
"Layout" tab, added the new layout, moved it up, pressed "Apply to whole
system"and clicked on "Close". The result is as expected:
1. "Switzerland French"
2. "Italy"
Everything worked fine till I reboot. After reboot the layout returned from
"Switzerland French" to "Italy", so I went again to
"gnome-keyboard-properties", and the result was:
1. "Italy"
2. "Switzerland French"
At this point I thought, why keeping the old layout, so after moving up
"Switzerland French" to the top (again), I deleted the "Italy" layout,
and to be sure I applied it to the whole system, closed it, then I tried
it in "gedit" (everything was fine the right layout is active), finally
I thought let's check it out another time (just the layout I need was in
the list of "gnome-keyboard-properties") and reboot the system.
After the second reboot the "Italy" layout showed up again on top:
1. "Italy"
2. "Switzerland French"
and the wrong layout was active once again.
I had this problem also on Ubuntu 8.04 two years back. Can anybody tell me
where I can correct this, or at lease give me hint??? Last time I reinstalled
Ubuntu, because nobody had an answer to this problem, which is still not
corrected.
Can anybody tell me where to find those source and config files, I will try to
fix this.
Thank you and best regards.
