I'm sure you've already done this but could you also confirm that the date and time on the camera are set properly and are correct for the time zone you're in please? And also check that the missing photos have not been imported in a 2010 event?
I just spent my Christmas / New Year break in a different time zone than the one I'm normally in and all my photos taken close to midnight have ended up in the wrong day's event because I did not bother updating the time on the camera while travelling.
