Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lives

If lives was installed from scratch on a gnome / unity system it did not start
and complains about a missing jack. A search for a simply jack package in
softwarecenter did not show a clear result. This was seen on 10.04 up to 11.04
beta.
Lives should be packaged with all urgent depends and install the missing jack
from itself.
