Binary package hint: udev My CD-Rom is often not recognized at boot time, perhaps 1/2 or 1/3 of the time. The only way I found to fix that is by rebooting, generally it then is detected. I'm not sure also what software is causing this failure (udev ? ata_piix ? other ?). My computer is an Acer TravelMate 4150LMi. The ICH6 chipset and - computer's configuration makes my PATA HDD and ATA DVD-Rom be supported - like it where SATA or SCSI disks. So the hard disk is /dev/sda and the + computer's configuration make my PATA HDD and ATA DVD-Rom be supported + like they were SATA or SCSI disks. So the hard disk is /dev/sda and the cdrom /dev/scd0.
