Thank you for responding. I decided to have an expert look at it. He
said the disk/partition was damaged and he reinstalled Windows. I then
installed Ubuntu again and didn't change the partition setting during
install. Everything went fine.

The best I can remember on the initial problem was that I came to a
point in the install setup where it asked if I wanted to change the
partition size. I did and ended up with the problem. Sorry I can't be
more specific.
