** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: indicator-applet

Canonical-made panel applets are grouped together and can't be easily
customized or removed. A user can't easily remove indicator-applet and
indicator-applet-session from the default because they are hard-coded
  into /usr/share/gconf/defaults/05_panel-default-setup.entries resulting
the error "The panel encountered a problem while loading
OAFIID:GNOME_IndicatorApplet". The fact that the applets are grouped
means that a user cannot chose to have only one part of the applet (e.g.
power menu w/o chat/status menu etc.). The result is that applets do not
have names which define what they do, which ends up confusing users.
+
+ Users may try to remove the indicator & me-menu giving an error to every
+ new user created as these are built into the default gnome
+ configurations. The result is that it's not possible to make a minimal
+ system without manually editing files. I would expect this task to be
+ possible by just removing packages.
