I have discontinued using Firefox, but continue to experience the same system freeze. There is, however, a noticeable difference between using SeaMonkey verses Firefox and that is that the slow down phase is more gradual and less severe though the ultimate system freeze is, like with Firefox, total.
Incidentally, thinking that perhaps only the user interface was affected, I have tried accessing the frozen box from another without success. FileZilla just sits there waiting...
