I am not sure what program died. I had maybe 10 application windows
open (at least). I had been going through the KDE and gnome menus just
launching applications just to see what they did. I was also exploring
available applications through aptitude search and I was installing
applications that looked interesting. Then I noticed the icon that
indicated that a crash had occurred. After clicking on the crashed
icon, I discovered that their had actually been several crashes. At
one of the prompts I entered my email information thinking I might be
able to see what had crashed.

I went back through several of the applications to see if I could
recreate a crash. The only thing I found was in the KDE control
panel, in the administration group, the application that says it will
create some sort of image index crashes each time I select the option.
The error tells me to install a "gift" application. I followed the
link and I downloaded the latest gift source code. So far the code will
not compile without errors. I have not spent much time yet trying to
correct the errors.

I am not sure whether the crash information was a result of the KDE
control panel problem or something else. I would like to better
understand the Ubuntu software support process. I have 20+ years
experience in the computer field. Doing everything from programming to
hardware and software support. I have even managed several projects
that had 20+ developers involved. However, the way Linux and other
large open source projects control project scope and code quality
within a dispersed group of volunteers is amazing.

Anyway sorry for the long winded response. Let me know how I can help.

Mark
