I've read the links, couldn't find any piece of text that would prohibit 
Tunapie (my favorite) to adopt their directory service as long as their 
directory won't be mixed/mingled with other streamcast directories.

I hope you will continue with Tunapie....I've used it for years now and
I would hate to see it withering away. :-)

As for streamtuner, it is no longer maintained and has become less and less 
useful throughout the past years.

OTOH there is a complete up-to-date rewrite of streamtuner: Streamtuner2 
(written in python)

Of course it would be great if this would be packaged for ubuntu.
