Here is a solution from bug
that has worked for everyone using rtl 8180 who has tried it.

It envolves adding a junk char to then end of the wifi ssid.
Since wlassistant works. And that I playing with kwifinetwork, "just
right" I was able to have it show that it scanned in found the wifi
ssid with the last char missing.

Sorry I did not recorded the kwifinetwork sequence of steps leading to
it showing a "found" wifi ssid missing the last char.
