It *is* locale-dependent. It's not clear to me why this didn't work for
you, as the code in Ubuntu 10.04.1 already said:

Did you definitely select Hungarian as your language as well as your
keyboard? Otherwise I'm not sure what's wrong; this will require
investigation.
