It is indeed still an issue. Unfortunately I can't check with the latest
dev version of Ubuntu as this is a work machine. Sorry!

Disabling ACPI causes the backlight to work perfectly. However, this has the
unfortunate side effect of disabling monitor brightness control and suspend
ability (and likely other things). Is there a way we can just disable ACPI for
the keyboard alone?
