Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error caused by a corrupted
archive. Please execute the following commands, as it will clear your
package cache, in a terminal ( Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal )
:

sudo dpkg --configure -a

Then try performing the update again.

If that fails to resolve this issue for you, please start the "Memory
check" from the boot menu. If that runs successfully, please start the
desktop cd. Hold right-shift key after the bios checks to get to the
grub menu and run "Check disc for errors" option. If the file system
corruption is serious, the safest option would be to reinstall your
system.

This will likely resolve your issue. If so please set the bug's status
to Invalid. Thanks in advance!
