Hey Stefano. This isn't a problem with Jaunty. I am running gNewSense (metad) on a mipsel based machine. I'm assuming metad is much newer than metad.
This appears to be a problem with the packaging or with something Python is doing in the postinst hook. Since the original poster was using an older version of Ubuntu and I am using a much newer derivation of it, and we are both having the same problem, on different hardware, I think it is not unreasonable to leave the bug open.
