Here's an (edited) explanation : Old gnustep-back in Debian/Ubuntu uses a defoma script to generate .nfont bundles during installation; they are not shipped in the package as there is no way to predict which fonts will be available on the user's machine (no font package ships .nfont bundles, and that's how it should be).
The script turned out to work less and less reliably, because in the past few years Debian has been trying to get rid of defoma, and as a consequence font packages have been dropping their "defoma hints" progressively. So what the script generated was a bunch of incorrect/incomplete .nfont bundles. [...] > Do you know if this problem exists in Debian ? No, it surely existed during the squeeze development cycle but we got that fixed by generating the bundles with fc-cache + mknfonts. ** Package changed: agenda.app (Ubuntu) => gnustep-back (Ubuntu) ** Summary changed: - SimpleAgenda won't start after a clean install because of missing fonts + GNUstep apps won't start after a clean install because of missing fonts -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/707720 Title: GNUstep apps won't start after a clean install because of missing fonts -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
