Just a quick note that splashy was removed from Debian testing because it was considered too buggy to release with. It's still in Debian unstable, but was removed in Ubuntu 10.10 (and will not be in 11.04) as a result of Debian's removal. So this is not a bug in current versions of Ubuntu (though may crop up in future versions if Debian reintroduces it).
