I believe I am seeing this issue as well within a day after a fresh
install of 10.10. I hadn't done too much from the default install, so I
thought listing what I had done might be helpful in narrowing down the
possibilities.

I do not yet have a sequence of events to trigger the issue, but I have
only had the system up for 2 days and X has died at least 10 times.

My system:
Abit AN-M2HD
AMD x2 4600+
evga nvidia geforce 210

1) installed from the amd64 alternate 10.10 cd (via usb)
2) updated packages
3) Switched to using nvidia-current
4) Turned off compiz and turned compositing on for metacity (for compatibility
with docky)
5) installed vlc, x11vnc, mplayer, smplayer, deluge, deluged, deluge-webui,
python-setuptools, flexget, ubuntu-restricted-extras, docky, gnome-do,
vdpau-va-driver, filezilla, nautilus-open-terminal, pavucontrol,
openssh-server, emacs, cron, vsftp
6) Setup 'echo "options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=0 probe_mask=0x102" | sudo tee
/etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-hdmi.con' (required to make pulseaudio use the right
alsa sound device to get audio over hdmi working)
7)) Setup x11vnc to load as root at bootup by adding "/usr/bin/x11vnc -auth
guess -o /var/log/x11vnc.log -forever -bg -rfbauth /home/belgarth/.vnc/passwd"
into /etc/gdm/Init/Default
8) Setup Deluged and deluge-webui to load at bootup using the instructions at
http://dev.deluge-torrent.org/wiki/UserGuide/InitScript/Ubuntu (including
creating a new deluge user)
9) setup flexget to run every 5 seconds via crontab

I suspect the issue involves one or more of the following: flexget
running (python script), the nvidia proprietary drivers, x11vnc running
at bootup as root.

I have tried adding in X-swat updates ppa in an attempt to try to fix
the issue with no luck.

So far, the simplest sequence of events leading to the crash was after a
fresh boot, I connected via vnc and logged into the device via vnc and
let it sit there. Within an hour X reset. But I have done the same since
with no X restart.
