Public bug reported:

1. I am using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - the Lucid Lynx

2. david@david-laptop:~$ apt-cache policy pkgname
W: Unable to locate package pkgname
(?)

3. I expect the sound to work when I boot up my laptop!

4. It doesn't! I tried upgrading to Alsa 1.0.23 with no change in the
situation. I have also tried to follow some of the sound
troubleshooting procedures, but I am not skilled enough (yet) to know
with confidence that I'm doing the correct steps.

5. sudo alsaconf found: atiixp ATI Technologies IXP SB400 AC '97 Audio
Controler (Rev 2)
and: legacy Probe legasy ISA (non-PnP) chips
when I highlighted the legacy Probe line I was advised that this could make
my system unstable so I have left the atiixp highlighted.
