There is a slight advantage to waiting until the Debian release and sync'ing that, since that assures Ubuntu and Debian are shipping the same orig.tar.gz. That can make syncs of patches from Debian work automatically, which sometimes can save some labor down the road. However, in the case of inkscape it seems judging from the changelog that packaging is somewhat more active in Ubuntu than Debian anway, so likelihood of being able to sync is probably low. Thus, I think your package looks perfectly acceptable. I have sponsored an upload of your merge into natty.
