Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: hal
On my laptop after manually loading the msi-laptop module with force=1
option, I can control the brightness with the following command:
echo "nb between 0 and 8" > /sys/devices/platform/msi-laptop-

However, HAL does not seem to recognize this device as being able to
control brightness:
relevant part of lshal:
udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/platform_msi_laptop_pf'
info.udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/platform_msi_laptop_pf' (string)

linux.hotplug_type = 1 (0x1) (int)
info.product = 'Platform Device (msi-laptop-pf)' (string)
platform.id = 'msi-laptop-pf' (string)
info.linux.driver = 'msi-laptop-pf' (string)
info.parent = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer' (string)
info.bus = 'platform' (string)
linux.sysfs_path_device = '/sys/devices/platform/msi-laptop-pf' (string)
