Thanks for reporting this issue and making Ubuntu better!
Using same version of update-manager on Natty, I'm also able to type in and
edit the error message.
I'm not sure what's the best way to reproduce this issue.
I assume the purpose is to allow users to copy the error message, to either
search for it or post it when looking for a solution. Though it should probably
be read-only if that is possible.
