it looks like there may have been a problem with your exim4 installation
prior to upgrade.
The installation process will generate its configuration from the files
located in /etc/exim4/conf.d; it would appear that there is an issue in
one of these files (potentially in /etc/exim4/conf.d/auth) which is
generating this error.
Please could you attach the following files to this bug report:
/var/lib/exim4/config.autogenerated.tmp
/etc/exim4/conf.d/*
This will help us to find and resolve the problem.
