on Ubuntu 10.04 or 10.10, you may install LibreOffice at the Terminal:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa && sudo apt-get update &&
sudo apt-get -y upgrade && sudo apt-get -y install libreoffice-calc
I could not reproduce this problem in Ubuntu 10.10, LibreOffice Writer.
