After plugging and unplugging the Zen in a few times it does now seem to
connect. I was a bit surprised at this as I have made no changes to any
configuration files. I tried mtp-detect which looked OK so I tried mtp-
files and it listed out the files OK. I then did mtp-getfile and
successfully copied an mp3 file from the Zen to my home folder. I
clicked on the file received into my home folder and it played OK.

So using the command line it seems to be working OK. I tried to do the
same sort of thing with Rhythmbox and Banshee but I couldn't get those
to read from the Zen to my hard disk. Nor could I get them either of
them to play tracks on the Zen.
